Picasso Fish: Has Entrepreneurial Spirit

The Picasso Fish Corporation, a company named after the owner's favourite aquarium fish, is striving to offer a wide range of high tech services to the businesses of Norfolk. The technical services offered by Picasso Fish include website development, website hosting, graphic design and custom computer programs.

The owner, John Matecsa, started his career at RDS Data after graduating from McMaster University with a degree in computer - science. RDS specialized in touch screen systems for fast food vendors and movie theatres.

Mr. Matecsa's experience and training allowed him to see the shutdown of RDS as an opportunity rather than as a crisis. He knew Norfolk was the place he wanted to work and raise a family, as Norfolk is the area where he grew up with his friends and family. Also, according to Mr. Matecsa, 'Norfolk is a safe place to live, the cost of living is reasonable, and two-thirds of our Picasso Fish clients are within an hour's drive of Simcoe.' Nevertheless, Mr. Matecsa started his entrepreneurial career with a little eCommerce consulting and the business slowly grew over the years to its permanent office location in Simcoe with a staff of seven full-time employees. Picasso Fish hope to expand operations to include 15 or more full-time employees before the end of 2007. The new positions include a marketing professional and graphic designer and the goal is to compliment web development by offering complete marketing solutions to clients.

The extent of Mr. Matecsa's business prowess has yet to be explored, as he is also a part owner with Dr. Mark Ghesquiere of PDA Consults. PDA Consults initially started by publishing medical references onto personal digital assistants. PDA Consults has also developed a program that chooses the best free drug based on their medical place, and currently this program has 85% market coverage. Mr. Matecsa has shown the community at large that opportunities in Norfolk are plentiful and profitable for those with a strong and enduring entrepreneurial spirit.
